Over My Shoulder

GaveKal: Four More Years

November 8, 2012

Three GaveKal voices – Arthur Kroeber, Will Denyer, and Charles Gave – weigh in on US prospects, post-election. Arthur echoes a common refrain from recent days: that the Republicans must somehow broaden their base. He concludes: "If the Republican Party is to stay relevant, and have a shot at electing a president in four years, it will need to give up its affection for faith-based resentment and engage with the changing economic and social reality of America."

Will makes the case that, while the reelection of Obama will be bad for the dollar and bad for the economy, electing Romney wouldn't have improved the situation much. In fact, he notes, deficits would have grown even worse under Romney, at least initially.

Finally, Charles appends a short note that opens with, "A Dangerous World Begins."
