Paul Kasriel: “No Sugar High from Tax Cut Unless the Fed and Banking System Provide the Sugar”

February 15, 2018

I read Paul Kasriel religiously when he was at Northern Trust. He writes less frequently now but no less cogently, and he always takes a somewhat contrarian view.

And you know that I think the Fed is going to not provide the sugar. The banking system has fewer assets than you might think by looking at their reserves, because a huge chunk of their "excess reserves" has to be there in order to meet the stress tests that they are required to periodically go through.
