Ironically, I am in the plane on my way to Japan for a few hours layover before heading on to Singapore, and reading about Japanese policy from David Zervos. I have a somewhat different take, as it seems the Japanese are trying to repeat their massive monetary reflation of the early 1930s. Which was very successful, by the way. But that's another story for another full letter.
