Cass Freight Index Report
February 11, 2014
On a different note, here's the Freight Index Report. How much stuff are we pushing through the system? Where is the growth?
The thoughtful person who passed this on asks the following questions ... and made me go hmmm...
John,
What does this mean?
Another sign of weak fundamental economic growth?
Or a sign of progress in using more technology in our manufactured goods (making them smaller and more efficient) along with more effective use of bulk commodities? -- one of your themes.
In keeping with today's blog, not a positive sign for traditional employment.
I believe a bit in all three -- but mostly item two about improving technology. In addition to economic productivity gains, this implies that our nation's infrastructure crisis is exaggerated. And this is before we consider a future with self-driving vehicles (truly huge implications for future economic growth).
