Cass Freight Index – August 2013
September 9, 2013
This is short two-page report on monthly freight data for August for the US trucking industry. I get it every month and find it useful, as it is a very real-world statistic. Data continues to show three years with almost no growth. This is even slower than our current reported slow economic growth. I wonder whether we are seeing a shift in manufacturing, with growing use of lighter-weight materials and, perhaps, goods that last longer. The latter could also lead to economic problems, with folks holding on to assets longer – cars now average 11.5 years old, a record. 3D printing may just be an extreme example of producing parts locally.
