Marc Andreessen on the “Vibe Shift”
We’re doing something a little different today. For months, John Mauldin has been nudging me to check out The Free Press, the news service founded by journalist Bari Weiss, formerly of The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. I finally heeded John’s guidance, and I wanted to pass along a thoughtful interview Weiss recently did with Marc Andreessen.
Andreessen has had a hand in the most transformational tech of the past 35 years—Mosaic, Netscape, Facebook, Twitter, GitHub, etc. He’s a layman philosopher and a scion of what some would call the real America… Wisconsin. This all informs his worldview, which I would call both honest and hopeful.

In the interview, Marc shares his take on the rise of “soft authoritarianism” over the past decade, the iron law of oligarchy, and Silicon Valley’s recent shift to the right. You’ll also hear some telling stories about the push to censor artificial intelligence. The interview is worth a listen just to hear how Washington really operates.
